How To Make Your Own Handmade Stocking Stuffers

Whether you are on a budget, or you love crafting, making your own handmade stocking stuffers is always a fun project to do.

Creating my own stocking stuffers always adds a unique gift or two to my family’s Christmas alongside their shop bought presents (from Santa, of course).

How To Make Your Own Handmade Stocking Stuffers

If you are looking to create your own small gifts to add to a stocking, then look no further. Here I have put together a list of some of my favorite handmade stocking stuffers to help you on your way.

So, what are you waiting for? Let;s get to it!

Handmade Candy Cane Sugar Scrub

For those who love to relax, a homemade candy cane inspired sugar scrub will be a great idea. Not only is it really easy to make, it may even cause you to want to make more in the future.

You Will Need

  • 1 cup of sugar (white, brown or raw)
  • Up to half a cup of Carrier oil (virgin coconut oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, etc)
  • Up to 20 drops of peppermint oil
  • Bowl to mix ingredients
  • Mason jar

To Make

  • Add the sugar to a bowl followed by a quarter cup of the carrier oil.
  • Mix the ingredients together.
  • If the ingredients seem too dry, add oil until it becomes a mixture that can hold together, yet is not too wet or too dry overall.
  • Once you are happy with the mixture, add in 15 drops of peppermint oil. Stir it and give it a smell. Need to add more? Then do so.
  • Once finished, scoop out the mixture and place it into a mason jar. Attach a candy cane to the outside of the jar and add a label as the finishing touches.

Handmade Play-Doh

If you know a child who loves play dough, then this will be a great stocking stuffer for them. Plus, it is really easy to make with a few simple ingredients.

You Will Need

  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Cream of tartar
  • Vegetable oil
  • Food coloring
  • Peppermint extract

To Make

  • In a 2 quart saucepan, add in the salt, flour, and cream of tartar.
  • Once the above has been mixed, add in vegetable oil, water, and peppermint oil.
  • Once mixed, turn the heat on to medium/low and stir all of the ingredients together. Try and remove the lumps if possible.
  • Once the mixture begins to separate at the bottom area of the pan, add in the food coloring.
  • The mixture will be getting quite hot now, and at this point the dough will be forming. Once formed, turn off the heat and remove the dough.
  • Let the dough cool on wax paper and knead it once cool. It is ready!

Handmade Fruity Lip Gloss

If you have a teenager daughter, then a fruity lip gloss will be a lovely idea. It fits nice in the stocking, and you can make different flavors.

You Will Need

  • Vaseline
  • Virgin coconut oil
  • Colored lipstick
  • Extract of flavor
  • Small pot for the lip gloss
  • Plastic spoon
  • Bowl that can be microwaved

To Make

  • Add equal parts of vaseline and coconut oil into the bowl and melt within the microwave. Remember to stop at intervals of 30 seconds in order to stir.
  • Once melted, remove the lipstick and mix it into the warm oil and vaseline. Make sure the color is bright due to the fact it will dilute in the mixture.
  • Now is the time to add 2 to 3 teaspoons of a fruity extract. This will flavor the lip gloss and take away any coconut smell. Add more if needed. Stir it all together.
  • Pour the mixture into lip gloss pots (or anything else that you might want to use). Be careful not to overfill the pots.
  • Place in the freezer for around 15 minutes in order to set.

Handmade Fun Shaped Crayons

Handmade Hot Honey Sauce

If you know somebody who loves hot sauce, then they will be happy to receive this homemade version from you.

You Will Need

  • Up to 8 dried chile peppers
  • 12 ounces of honey

To Make

  • Finely chop up to 8 chile peppers.
  • Add 12 ounces of honey to a saucepan along with the chopped peppers. Stir.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer on a medium heat for around 5 minutes.
  • Bring the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for up to an hour.
  • Once finished, let it cool and add it to bottles. It should then be stored in the refrigerator.

Handmade Hair Ties

Who doesn’t love a cute hair tie? Here is a super easy way to make them.

You Will Need

  • 5 to 8 inch size of elastic (in cool colors and patterns)
  • A piece of paper
  • Lighter
  • Scissors

To Make

  • Using the length side of paper, use it as a measurement guide of how long the tie should be. Cut to size.
  • Fold the elastic over in half.
  • Tie a knot so both sides are together and singe the end using a lighter.
  • Once you have made a few you can package them up in a clear tube or over cardboard. You can also adjust the size.

Final Thoughts

Whether you are looking to stick to a budget this Christmas or you want to make some unique stocking fillers, then the above list will no doubt help you come up with some ideas.

From homemade lip gloss and a sugar scrub, to play-doh and hot sauce, there really is something for everyone.
