How To Personalize Glass Ball Ornaments (12 Ways)

If you love Christmas like I do, you probably love ornaments and baubles. There’s nothing like decorating your Christmas tree with all your beautiful buys and creations.

Sometimes these ornaments are… lacking. Every store has the same selection, and if you want something different, you will pay an arm and a leg for it.

How To Personalize Glass Ball Ornaments (12 Ways)

So, what’s the solution?

Personalize your own glass ball ornaments!

Personalizing your own ornaments is a lot easier than you might think, and it’s a lot of fun. You can make a day of it and just have fun with friends and family.

The best part is that there are so many options when it comes to personalizing them. From dipping them in paint, to wrapping them in yarn or even creating glitter balls.

To help you out this holiday season, I’ve put together a list of 12 of my favorite ways to personalize your glass ball ornaments. Hopefully this gives you some fun ideas to try out this festive season (see also “10 Festive Christmas Ideas You Can Make From Home“)!

How To Personalize Glass Ball Ornaments (12 Ways)

1. Dip Them

You can easily dip your ornaments or baubles in paint to give them a dipped look! Choose your favorite colors, and use some simple acrylic paint to add some pizzazz.

Water down your paint if you want a more sheer finish.

2. Feathered Ornament

Feathered ornaments are so extra, and I love it. You can simply purchase some of your favorite feathers and put them in the ornament.

Alternatively, you can carefully stick some feathers to the outside of the ornament, or tie them around the neck. Add some beads and other bits and pieces to make a beautiful decoration.

3. Make A Tartan Ornament

Love tartan, or maybe you have some Scottish heritage? Why not celebrate it by creating these cute tartan ornaments?

You just need your ornaments, tartan of choice, and a hot glue gun. This will create a unique and really meaningful Christmas decoration that everyone will love (see also “How To Find Pinterest Inspiration For Christmas“).

4. Pom-Pom Filled Ornament

You can buy tiny pom-poms and fill up a glass ball ornament with them! This is a great way to add some oomph to a simple ornament.

You can even glue the pom-poms to the outside of the ornament, but only if you don’t plan on changing the decor!

5. Mistletoe Ornament

Everyone knows what mistletoe means (I’m talking about kissing, not Balder). You can either use real mistletoe to tie to your ornament, or you can paint some on!

There are some beautiful Etsy stores that use this idea that you can buy from if you aren’t much of an artist. It’s a beautiful decoration, and it is classy enough for everyone to love.

6. Drip Paint Your Ornament

Drip painting will always give you a satisfying outcome, so why not try it on your glass ornaments?

You can pick any colors you like as long as they are cohesive! Just pour on your chosen colors (don’t paint them on), and allow them to drip.

Something like a hair dryer could be useful, too, but it isn’t necessary. If you like, you could even pour the pain on the inside of the ornament and let it drip out, so you don’t lose that smooth finish.

7. Put Your Name On It

If you have a Cricut machine, getting this done could be pretty helpful. However, even if you want to freehand it, you can still get adorable results.

This kind of idea is great for families, as you can get the kids to make one every single year and see how it improves every year.

It’s the kind of ornament decorating that will stick with you for years to come.

8. Wrap it in Chunky Yarn

You don’t have to use chunky yarn – you could also use thin yarn if you like. The whole idea is simple – get your yarn, and wrap the ornament in it!

The colors are up to you, and you can even alternate colors to make beautiful patterns. Hot glue to hold the yarn down would be helpful, or you might find yourself going in circles.

9. Twice Painted Elegance

For this personalization option, you just need paint! First, you will paint the ornament with your chosen base color (a simple black or white works wonderfully).

Allow it to dry, then add some more paint on top! You can do this however you like, but I love how the picture turned out.

Drizzle the second paint color over the first as if you’re decorating a dessert – it will look good enough to eat! Golds and silvers always look amazing.

10. DIY Glitter it

There are a few different ways to do this, and you can use glitter of any size. You can pour your glitter of choice into the glass ball ornament, or you can douse your ornament in glue and glitter it up!

If you really want to step it up, you can create a glitter solution to pour into the ornament, so you can shake it and be in awe.

Just be sure to seal it properly so that it doesn’t leak everywhere – glitter will haunt you for years.

11. Cover it With Holographic Sequins

Do you want your glass ball ornament to reflect light in any and every direction? Holographic sequins are your answer!

I love the look of this ornament, but it does take time to get right. You can head to Etsy to purchase these, or take the time to make them yourself with your family. It’ll be fun, I promise!

12. Rhinestone Ornament

Finally, why not rhinestone your glass ball ornament? Okay, this one will also take some time, but the results can be absolutely breathtaking.

You can stick to a basic design like the link above, or you can be inspired by Etsy – these will not disappoint.

Final Thoughts

Personalizing glass ball ornaments can be a lot of fun, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard work and time-consuming. You can go in any direction, and just have fun with it, if you like.

However, there are also some amazing options you can try out if you really want to make a work of art. Just look at those rhinestone baubles!
